His Pleasure

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11

Pleasure: delight, to be pleased with, enjoy, approve, observe

If we were created for his pleasure, I wonder how often we actually give him pleasure??!
Or are we just a little bit ( or a lot) annoying?
Is God up there kind of rubbing his whiskers, thinking “Man, why did I create these little monsters, anyway? They do all these stupid things ( sometimes in my name!) and never once think about how I might feel about it?”

Is that what God is thinking?

Probably not, because God doesn’t think the way we do, and his purpose transcends the mundane details of our daily lives. We probably won’t ever be able to understand why he would create a race of beings that he knew would defy him most of the time.

But maybe we should just start listening to him once in a while.

As any mother can tell you, our kids want to tell us everything…….they yap and yap, telling us all the things that happened to them, all of their problems. Then when it’s our turn to talk, they go off and play! Listening is not something kids do by choice. Generally, they have to be “persuaded” to listen.
We are Gods kids…….Is that what God has to do with us? Persuade us to listen to him? What would happen if we just chose to listen to God sometimes? What if we just sat down and said ” God, I’d like to hear what you have to say today? And then actually listened. And asked a few questions or something. A real conversation. God is not displeased with us going to him with our requests and problems, but why don’t we ever just sit and listen to what he has to say about it when we are finished telling him all about our day?

Here’s what he has to say about how he sees us……

For The Lord taketh pleasure in his people; he will beautify the meek with salvation. Psalms 149:4

The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. Psalms 147:11

Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause, yea let them say continually ( constantly/daily), Let The Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity (welfare) of his servant. Psalms 35:27

The word “pleasure” doesn’t just mean he’s happy when we are doing what we are supposed to do……the good things…..he also has pleasure in us just by observing us going about our daily lives. He enjoys our activity, much like we enjoy the birds singing and feeding and doing their bird things. God likes watching us doing our human things. He is interested in us as his creations. Most parents are interested in their children, and observe them with pleasure……. (Okay, maybe I’m thinking of grandparents!)
When we actually worship God in our daily lives, he smiles and says to himself “yes, that’s my girl”,
“oh yeah, that’s my boy!”

Let us be mindful of our Fathers pleasure.

He is pleased with us, because He created us.

  1. Strangely, I am just now really getting this. I recently read The Pleasures of God
Meditations on God’s Delight in Being God by John Piper. That helped.
